my talking space

I just can’t cope at the moment. I need help.
Feel familiar?

Are you feeling low, anxious, overwhelmed, or does it feel like it's all just too much? Do you feel like your life is lacking meaning or purpose? Or are you experiencing some changes in your life and you are not sure how to cope with them?

my talking space offers you a space to explore what is going on in your life. It is space for you to use as you would like; a space to be vulnerable, to grieve, to explore your anxieties or just to slow down.

In a fast-paced world, with constant pressures on us, it can be difficult to find the emotional and physical space for yourself and your feelings. This is what I can help you with.

about me

about me

I am a fully qualified counsellor and psychotherapist based in Islington. I help clients deal with their difficulties, and have worked with a diverse range of people and issues.

My special areas of interest include:

  • stress

  • anxiety

  • low mood

I have worked in a variety of settings including the NHS, youth work, higher education and counselling services.

I hold a Master's in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of Roehampton. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and a member of the BACP Private Practice Division.

what is counselling?

You may come to counselling to deal with particular issues, such as depression or anxiety. Or you may come to deal with the emotional impact of past experiences, or recent life changes that have left you feeling unsettled.

Counselling and therapy can help you to understand your emotions and experiences more clearly, and enable you to learn to cope with them better. It can help you explore how you relate to yourself, to others and to the wider world.

Therapy is not about advice or a quick fix, but about working collaboratively to unpick some of your difficulties and understand themes and patterns that arise in your life.

My time spent with Amina has completely changed my outlook on life. This is in part down to the calm and wise guidance I have received but also down to her inestimable kindness. This time has been invaluable in helping me overcome long term issues and giving me the skills and confidence to face up to smaller, every day ones too that would have previously fazed me. I look forward to my session every week and would highly recommend her.

my approach

I provide short and long term counselling to adults using an integrated approach. This means I combine a variety of theories and techniques. The key theories I work with are listed below:

  • Person centred theory focuses on your potential to change and grow, and your ability to make the right choices for yourself

  • Psychodynamic theory considers how you relate to and experience people and looks at how your past affects your present life

  • CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) looks at how the way you think affects the way you feel and behave. It explores how unhelpful patterns can hold you back from achieving your full potential

I do not believe one single theory holds the truth, and therapy must be adapted to meet each individual client’s needs.

my approach
I was going through an extremely difficult period of my life when I found Amina. She has been nothing short of brilliant in helping me through some very dark times, listening without judgement, as I have had to make some very hard decisions. She is supportive and warm, and shows me how to think of things in different ways. Although I still have a little way to go, I now feel I can face my challenges with more insight and understanding of myself.
